EX DEO: New Album Title Announced; Audio Interview Available
November 18, 2010EX DEO — the Ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono — will begin pre-production on its next album, "Caligula", once KATAKLYSM has completed its touring commitments in 2011. Iacono states, "Expect a revolutionary album that will breathe the word 'NEW' into a much-stagnant metal industry.
"It is yet undermined which label will release 'Caligula' as we are looking at many different options."
EX DEO is currently on the road in North America with NILE, PSYCROPTIC and KEEP OF KALESSIN. Maurizio says, "It's amazing to see a vision I had one day waking up finally become a reality two years ago.
"We had done a few shows in America with ENSIFERUM for our debut album, 'Romulus' that were fantastic, but to go across the country and really seeing people waiting anxiously for this and screaming their hearts out for it live has been one incredible feeling.
"I feel EX DEO is changing the game of the underground, bringing a theater to the live stage and bringing a new concept that has never done before.
"This is a beast of a band and we would like to thank everyone for the great support."
On November 16, Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of Metal Assault conducted an interview with guitarist Maurizio Iacono at the Key Club in West Hollywood, California during the band's North American tour with NILE and KEEP OF KALESSIN. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.
"The Final War (Battle Of Actium)", the new video from EX DEO, can be viewed below. The clip, which was helmed by renowned director Ivan Colic and producer Stanimir "Staca" Lukic (MOONSPELL, KAMELOT, DEATHSTARS, TYPE O NEGATIVE) in Belgrade, Serbia, made its online debut on March 15 (Ides of March) in honor of the god of war, Mars.
Iacono previously stated about the new video: "After much discussion with the director Ivan Colic, we decided to go with 'The Final War (Battle Actium)' as the next video clip for [EX DEO's debut album] 'Romulus'. I love the song 'In Her Dark Embrace', which was initially the planned video track, but we've decided to bring the whole production one step higher and film 'The Final War (Battle Actium)'. The story line is amazing for this song and we will be able to capture not only Roman battle scenes and all the blood you want, but also the true story behind the war that turned Rome from a republic into an Empire. We're going full force with this one!"
"Romulus", the debut album from EX DEO, landed at position No. 90 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Released in June 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records, "Romulus" was recorded with producer (and KATAKLYSM guitarist) Jean-Francois Dagenais (MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON, MALEVOLENT CREATION).
